The Orion Nebula (M42) is one of the most epic objects in the night sky. It comes around every winter here in the northeast. I shot about 7 hours of data including 4 hours of LRGB and 3 hours of Hydrogen Alpha (HA). After I finished, I had a hard time figuring out how to best process it. Adding Ha to the image directly made the Orion too red. I wanted to bring out the dust around the nebula and came to a solution that I was happy with–using the Ha as luminance but masking M42 with the HA itself. 00:00 Intro 00:28 What's Been Done Prior To This Video 01:45 RGB Channel Combination 02:57 Spectrophotometric Color Calibration 07:27 Histogram Transformation 09:10 Adding Luminance via LRGB Combination 10:04 Adding Ha via LRGB Combination 11:44 Star Xterminator 12:52 Curves Transformation 14:31 Local Histogram Equalization 15:19 Noise Xterminator 16:16 Recombine Stars via PixelMath 17:03 Final Touches
