When should you actually pay your credit card?
Most people know their payment due date, but your statement closing date can matter too, especially when it comes to the balance that gets reported to the credit bureaus.
In this video, I break down exactly when I would pay my credit card in three different situations:
• During a normal month
• Before applying for a mortgage, auto loan, or other major loan
• When carrying a credit card balance and paying interest
We’ll also talk about statement balance vs. current balance, credit utilization, when paying before your statement closes can make sense, and why you do NOT need to obsess over your credit card balance every day.
For most people, the best system is actually pretty simple: automate the full statement balance, pay on time, and only worry about payment timing when there's a reason to.
Credit cards should fit into your financial system — your financial system shouldn't revolve around your credit cards.
If you enjoy practical personal finance, credit card strategies, and simple money systems that don't require obsessing over every dollar, subscribe for more.
