FIVE is one of the most divisive maps in Call of Duty Zombies, but was its difficulty actually too much?
Following the success of Kino Der Toten, Treyarch took Zombies in a completely different direction. Instead of a relatively open and accessible map, FIVE throws you into the Pentagon with tight corridors, aggressive enemies, the Pentagon Thief and some of the most chaotic gameplay Zombies had seen up to this point.
In this retrospective, we take a look at FIVE, from its development and unusual setting to its gameplay, atmosphere, characters, story and the mechanics that made it such a frustrating, but memorable experience. We'll also look at how FIVE fit into the wider Zombies story and why Treyarch's decision to experiment with the formula divided players for years.
Was FIVE a misunderstood experiment, or was it simply too frustrating for its own good?
This is Chapter 6 of my chronological Call of Duty Zombies retrospective.
