We are so lucky to have Cottontail Farm at the Lafayette Farmers Market. Cottontail is a small-scale regenerative flower farm in Longmont, Colorado, growing seasonal cut flowers along Colorado’s Front Range. In this Colorado flower farm tour, we walk the farm with founders Ginny and George to learn how they transformed a three-acre grass field into a working local flower farm. Ginny and George purchased their Longmont property in 2020 without plans to become farmers. But after learning how heavily the U.S. cut-flower industry relies on imported flowers, they began thinking differently about their three acres. In 2022, Cottontail Farm was born. Today, Cottontail grows specialty cut flowers using regenerative and no-till farming practices designed to protect and build healthy soil. The farm uses compost, cover crops, wood-chip mulch and drip irrigation and grows without pesticides or herbicides. In this farm tour, we explore the flower fields, learn about growing cut flowers in Colorado’s challenging climate, and hear the story behind a small farm working to produce beautiful, seasonal flowers closer to home. Cottontail Farm sells fresh and dried seasonal flowers at the Longmont Farmers Market, on select Sundays at the Lafayette Farmers Market, and through its seasonal self-serve farm stand in Longmont.
