Friday Special #HOTD How To using 3000-8000-12000-15000 Grit Waterstones, Hone Of The Day with a Vintage Straight Razor The Haddon Brand made by WR Humphreys & Company in Sheffield England 13/16" Hollow Ground, Honing through the progressions to produce a Shave Ready Straight Razor.
When Honing, the Bevel on a Straight Razor is Everything without a Properly Set Bevel you Don't Have Anything, and Can't Continue the Honing Progression with any Success.

Using the Suehiro 1000/3000 Grit Combination Waterstone, on the 3000 Grit Side (SKG-24 TOISHI):
1. 20 Laps on Both Sides with Pressure at 03:14
2. 10 Laps on Both Sides with Pressure at 04:01
3. 5 Laps on Both Sides with Pressure at 04:23
4. 10 X-Strokes without Pressure, weight of the blade only at 05:03
Going from the 3K to the 8K stone there is a Delta of 5K between stones in the Progression.
Using the TAIDEA 3000/8000 Grit Combination Waterstone, on the 8000 Grit Side (T0914W):
1. 20 Laps on Both Sides with Pressure at 07:12
2. 10 Laps on Both Sides with Pressure at 07:50
3. 5 Laps on Both Sides with Pressure at 08:11
4. 10 X-Strokes without Pressure, weight of the blade only at 08:26
Going from the 8K to the 12K stone there is a Delta of 4K between stones in the Progression.
Using the SHAPTON M5 12000 Grit Ceramic Waterstone:
1. 20 Laps on Both Sides with Pressure at 10:40
2. 10 Laps on Both Sides with Pressure at 11:22
3. 5 Laps on Both Sides with Pressure at 11:40
4. 10 X-Strokes without Pressure, weight of the blade only at 12:15
Going from the 12K to the 15K stone there is a Delta of 3K between stones in the Progression.
Using the METAL MASTER 15000 Grit Resin Waterstone:
1. 20 Laps on Both Sides without Pressure, weight of the blade only at 15:06
2. 10 Laps on Both Sides without Pressure, weight of the blade only at 15:44
3. 5 Laps on Both Sides without Pressure, weight of the blade only at 16:03
4. 10 X-Strokes without Pressure or as may as it takes to have the blade feel like it is sticking to the stone, weight of the blade only at 16:17
Normally I do not put electrical tape on the spine because it will change the angle and geometry of the bevel. However, if you need to run through the progression 2 or 3 times, you may want to add electrical tape to the spine of the razor to reduce excess wear on the spine.
