How Aal-e-Saud Built Saudi Arabia | The First Saudi State | Part 1 | Dr Nasir Baig

We also examine how Diriyah developed from a small settlement into the centre of a growing political power, bringing several towns and tribes under a wider system of authority. The episode follows the expansion of the First Saudi State across Najd and toward Makkah and Madinah. As Saudi influence grew, the Ottoman Empire viewed the new state as a serious political challenge. Sultan Mahmud II ordered Muhammad Ali Pasha, the Ottoman governor of Egypt, to launch a military campaign against it. His son, Ibrahim Pasha, eventually captured and destroyed Diriyah in 1818, bringing the First Saudi State to an end. Dr Nasir Baig also presents two sharply opposing narratives about Aal-e-Saud. Supporters describe them as reformers and political leaders who brought unity and stability to a divided region. Critics accuse them of serving wider political interests and promoting religious and regional divisions. The episode examines controversial claims concerning the ancestry of Aal-e-Saud, their religious movement and the alleged involvement of foreign powers. It separates established historical evidence from political propaganda, disputed interpretations and unsupported allegations.
