Johnny Carson Lost It at Rodney Dangerfield's Ugliest Date

Wednesday 31 January 1979, one year to the day after the 1978 night we showed you. Rodney Dangerfield walks out, opens with the same line, and works through the act and the couch. The dictionary line at the end has Johnny Carson laughing and pointing at the desk. No narration in this one. You asked us to let him talk, so the whole segment plays through. Four jokes in the stand-up are repeats: the mother who "liked me as a friend" and the pacemaker that opens the garage door (both 31 January 1978), the dog he taught to sit (6 July 1976) and the Surgeon General's cigarette (30 August 1977). The dog-and-bone joke is an old one rewritten: in 1973 the bone was in his finger, here it is in his arm.
