Inside, the great stone hearth is burning high and steady over a deep bed of embers, a lantern glows on every table from the window to the far end of the room, the stag's head keeps watch above the settles, and the brass taps along the bar hold the firelight. The old leather armchair by the fire has a tartan rug over the arm, and on the little table beside it a candle lantern is lit and a whisky is already poured. The chair has been kept for you.
