"Marion's the one with leopardskin platforms, Janice is the one with six cans of light ale in her handbag."
The day at the seaside is a living British tradition. Celebrated by millions of city dwellers every year on cheerful expeditions to resorts all round the coast, from Brighton to Scarborough, from Bournemouth to Rothesay. The name in the lettered rock changes from one place to another, but the flavour is the same.
Jack Pizzey and the Man Alive team have been at Margate, observing the rituals of that British institution - the Day Trip. For the family with kids it's the beach; for the pensioners it's the pub, the deckchairs and the memories; for the working couple it's fishing from the pier and a good book, and for the teenage girls it's bars, discos and big-dippers.
Clip taken from Man Alive, originally broadcast on BBC Two, 3 October, 1974.
