🐴 SLICE RACE RECAP

We are going to give it to you straight today — as we always do here at Tothewhip Racing. Slice ran Saturday afternoon at Del Mar and unfortunately the gate gremlins showed up again. She hopped at the start — staying true to the gate mishaps that have haunted her throughout her career — and was simply outfooted from there, unable to make a dent in a field that went very even through the lane with no real pace to set up her closing style. She stayed to the task — she always does — but left herself far too much to do from too far back. We were not at Del Mar and that stings on its own. Mike McCarthy reached out before the race and the fact that he looked for us says everything about the relationship and care this team has for their partners. Mike’s text summed it up plainly — no pace, very even through the lane, didn’t break all that well again. Unfortunate not to get a mile race. Eclipse’s Aron Welman was equally honest and equally kind in his assessment. Slice has simply been unlucky in not getting the right race to go. The gate issues, the trip luck, the pace scenarios — it has been one thing after another in a campaign that has shown us real ability without ever letting it fully express itself on race day. But here is what we are holding onto today — Aron’s closing words. He has a sneaking suspicion things could click for Slice soon. And we believe him. Because the morning talent is undeniable. Because she stays to the task every single time. Because some fillies take longer to put it all together and when they do — watch out. The path forward is being considered carefully. The Los Alamitos eternal stretch on short rest next week is one option — that long straight run could genuinely suit a closer like Slice.
