#HollywoodTragedy #TheConqueror #johnwayne Welcome back to The Unfold Hollywood. Step onto Hollywood’s cursed frontier, where a lethal lie transformed John Wayne’s darkest film into one of the most fatal productions in cinematic history. Behind the sweeping desert landscapes of The Conqueror lay an invisible radioactive poison that the studio and government desperately concealed from the cast and crew. In 1954, Howard Hughes and director Dick Powell brought Hollywood icon John Wayne, Susan Hayward, and over two hundred cast and crew members to the red sands of St. George, Utah, directly downwind from the US government's atomic testing grounds. Assured the location was safe, the production spent months inhaling irradiated dust, unaware of the fatal consequences awaiting them in the decades ahead. This documentary investigates the chilling behind-the-scenes reality of The Conqueror, the deadly cover-up, and the heartbreaking toll that claimed the lives of cinema's greatest legends.
