What is the Future of B.Sc Nursing, CHO, HIO & PHCO? | Karnataka Draft Special Rules 2026 A major development for nursing aspirants in Karnataka! 🩺📚 The Karnataka Government has published a Draft Special Rules Notification dated 20 August 2026 proposing recruitment rules for 1,205 Primary Health Care Officer (PHCO) posts and 300 Health Inspecting Officer (HIO) posts — 1,505 posts in total. Most importantly, the draft recognizes B.Sc Nursing and eligible Nursing Diploma qualifications for both PHCO and HIO posts, subject to the conditions mentioned in the draft. 🔹 PHCO – 1,205 Posts • Female candidates only • B.Sc Nursing / eligible Nursing Diploma accepted • Karnataka Nursing Council registration required for nursing qualification route • Pay Scale: ₹37,500–₹76,100 🔹 HIO – 300 Posts • B.Sc Nursing and eligible Nursing Diploma included among proposed qualifications • Pay Scale: ₹37,500–₹76,100 🔹 Proposed Selection Process • Written Examination – 160 Marks • Practical/OSCE – 40 Marks • Total – 200 Marks • No Interview 🔹 Additional Benefits Proposed • Eligible government/NHM contractual service: up to 5 additional marks • Age relaxation provisions for eligible contractual service • Maximum age after applicable relaxations: 50 years • Kannada language qualification as prescribed in the draft 📌 Important: This is only a Draft Special Rules Notification, not the final PHCO/HIO recruitment notification. The proposed rules will become applicable only after the required final notification/gazette process. Candidates should not consider this as an open recruitment notification yet.
