"Hey Charlie, let's play the blues." This is the story of Charlie Christian, who played guitar with the Benny Goodman Sextet and Orchestra from the fall of 1939 to the spring of 1941. He brought with him a new concept of jazz which, fused with the music of Lester Young and a few others, became the foundation of what was called bop in the forties, and opened the way to the whole field of "modern Jazz" in the fifties.
