The Vipava Valley, Slovenia

Local gastronomy includes the Vipava prosciutto, the Nanos cheese along with a wide variety of local wine such as pinela and zelen. The picture-perfect Vipavski Križ, a romantic fortified town with narrow streets, is one of the most prominent settlements in the valley. Once the smallest town in the Habsurg Empire and a bustling trade centre, today holds the popular Zelen Wine Festival in June and a medieval festival the Sound of the Castle Walls in August.
