Marc Márquez collided with Marco Bezzecchi in Qatar. Bezzecchi crashed out, Marc went on to win, and the MotoGP stewards ruled it a racing incident. *No penalty.*
But earlier this season in Thailand, Márquez was penalised for forcing Pedro Acosta wide — even though Acosta stayed on his bike.
So why were the decisions different?
In this Full Lean investigation, we examine four pieces of the puzzle:
What actually happened between Márquez and Bezzecchi in Qatar?
Why did the stewards penalise Marc in Thailand?
How have stewarding decisions and rule interpretations affected championships before?
As MotoGP's commercial stakes grow, how is sporting independence demonstrated?
We revisit the Jerez pit-lane controversy, the infamous Rossi–Márquez clash at Sepang in 2015, and the questions surrounding consistent rule enforcement.
*This is not an accusation of favouritism or commercial interference.* We have no evidence of either. We're examining the decisions, the differences between the incidents, and why clear explanations matter.
Because the rules don't just need to be fair. Fans deserve to understand why they're fair.
*What do you think?* Was Qatar a racing incident, or should Marc have received a penalty? Let us know in the comments.
