2027 Porsche 911 GT3: Precision and Raw Speed
Highs and Lows
Strengths include Nurburgring-honed handling, powerful acceleration, and a cabin that's both functional and comfortable. Drawbacks include an overly stiff ride for long trips and a steep price tag.
Verdict
The GT3 represents the 911 at its most focused and capable, standing out as one of the rawest, most thrilling sports cars available today.
Overview
The Porsche 911 GT3 combines engineering precision, decades of refinement, and pure driving engagement. Its telepathic steering and available six-speed manual transmission (with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic also offered) deliver exceptional feedback and control. Behind the driver sits a 502-hp naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six that revs to a screaming 9000-rpm redline. While the standard GT3 embraces its track-focused identity with a large rear wing, the GT3 Touring offers nearly identical performance with more understated styling. New for 2027 is the S/C, the first-ever GT3 convertible, featuring a power-operated soft top.
What's New for 2027
The headline addition is the S/C model, the first cabriolet in GT3 history. It uses the same 502-hp flat-six as the coupe models, paired exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission, and borrows lightweight components from the 911 S/T, including a carbon fiber hood, fenders, and doors, along with lightweight interior trim, carbon composite brakes, and magnesium wheels. The S/C is available to order now, with deliveries expected in fall 2026.
Pricing
The 2027 911 GT3 starts at $238,150 and reaches $387,000 depending on trim and options. The new S/C convertible costs about $35,000 more than the hardtop coupe. A limited-edition GT3 90 F.A. Porsche model, mechanically identical to the GT3 Touring but with exclusive paint and trim, will be produced in a run of just 90 units for select buyers.
Engine and Performance
The GT3's naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six produces 502 hp and pairs with either a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic or six-speed manual, driving the rear wheels. Standard adaptive dampers and sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 (or Cup 2R) tires give the car strong cornering grip and direct feedback. Revisions made for 2025 improved ride quality on smoother roads, though testing on rougher Michigan pavement showed the GT3 Touring still struggles with harsh surfaces. Steering feel remains a highlight, and optional carbon-ceramic brakes offer strong, fade-resistant stopping power, with active anti-roll bars available for flatter cornering.
Acceleration
Car and Driver recorded a 2.7-second 0-60 mph time with the automatic transmission and 3.3 seconds with the manual. Despite having 168 fewer horsepower, the GT3 automatic trailed a Corvette Z06 to 60 mph by just 0.2 second.
Fuel Economy
EPA estimates are 14 mpg city and 18 mpg highway with the automatic, or 13 mpg city and 19 mpg highway with the manual. In real-world highway testing, the GT3 exceeded its rating with 24 mpg.
