The people who raised the pillars of Göbekli Tepe left no graves, and the bone they did leave behind is so broken down that the people digging it up don't expect any DNA to have survived. So the only way to find out where the builders came from is to read everyone around them.
In 2022 a Harvard team read the first DNA from that world, a person buried at Boncuklu Tarla, a village above the Tigris with its own pillared hall, 260 kilometres east. Then come thirteen people from Çayönü, a village that took in outsiders and reshaped its babies' heads, and the teeth of Nevalı Çori, 44 kilometres from the hill, where you can watch the coming and going fall away as the wheat takes over. Before any of it, people related to Iran's first farmers were already heading west.
Put the witnesses side by side and you get the answer to who built Göbekli Tepe, and it isn't a lost civilisation. Then the video follows that mix out of the hills: onto the plains of central Turkey, into the first farmers of Europe, and into a man buried in a clay pot on the Nile around 2700 BC, the first ancient Egyptian whose whole genome anyone has read.
