The 2027 Toyota Corolla sedan, explained the way a car enthusiast would explain it to a friend: the 2.0-litre gas engine (169 hp, 151 lb-ft) and the fifth-generation hybrid (138 hp net, available AWD), how the hybrid actually works, real-world fuel economy (up to 50 mpg combined), how far one tank really goes, LE, SE and XSE plus Hybrid LE, SE and XLE and who each one suits, the 60th Anniversary Special Edition, Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, prices from $23,325, and how it stacks up against the Renault Clio, Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, Nissan Sentra and Kia K4. Economy and range figures are official factory figures; real-world results vary with traffic, load, terrain and weather. Which vehicle should we cover next? Tell us in the comments. One of the most famous car names on the planet. This year, it turns sixty. The hybrid version is rated at up to fifty miles per gallon. But does that number hold up in real life? Should you buy the hybrid or the gas one? Is it worth the money? Let us go through it, one by one. Hit like, subscribe to the channel, and tell me in the comments what you think of the Corolla. This is the Corolla sedan. Two axles, four wheels, five seats. There are two engines. A two point oh litre gas four-cylinder, and a one point eight litre hybrid. The gas car comes as LE, SE and XSE. The hybrid comes as Hybrid LE, Hybrid SE and Hybrid XLE. If you ask me, the Corolla's secret is simple. It never tries to wow you. But it never lets you down either. Let us walk around it. Up front, the headlights are slim and sharp. Below them, there is a huge, dark lower grille. The roof slopes gently towards the back, so the sedan looks more like a coupe. The SE and XSE ride on eighteen-inch alloy wheels with a graphite finish. At the rear, slim tail lights, and a sporty black lower bumper. The Corolla from ten years ago was taller and plainer. This one sits lower and wider. In my opinion, it is the first Corolla in a long time that actually turns heads. Now, inside. The dashboard is built around horizontal lines, so it feels wide and calm. An eight-inch touchscreen is standard, sitting on top of the dash like a tablet. The XSE and Hybrid XLE get a ten point five inch screen, and a twelve point three inch digital gauge cluster. The climate controls are still real buttons, and honestly, I love that. The XSE gets heated sport seats with SofTex trim. The trunk holds thirteen point one cubic feet. Let us start with the gas car. It is a two point oh litre four-cylinder. It makes one hundred and sixty-nine horsepower. Torque, the pulling force, is one hundred and fifty-one pound-feet. The gearbox is a C V T, but a clever one. It uses a real gear to pull away from a stop, then the belt system takes over. The XSE even gets paddle shifters, with ten pre-set steps. Now the hybrid, and do not worry, I will keep it simple. Under the hood, there is a one point eight litre gas engine. Next to it, an electric motor and a small lithium-ion battery. At low speeds, in slow traffic, it can move for short stretches on electric power alone. When you need more speed, the gas engine joins in. When you brake, or roll downhill, the battery charges itself. No plug, no charging station, ever. Together, they make one hundred and thirty-eight horsepower. So, is that enough power? For daily driving, yes. The hybrid has less horsepower on paper. But its electric motor gives its push the moment you touch the pedal. So from a red light, the hybrid actually feels lively. On a busy freeway with four people on board, both need a bit of patience. This is not a sports car. But it does everything a family sedan should. Now the question everyone asks. How much fuel does this body burn with these engines? Let us look. On official factory figures, on mixed driving, the gas LE gets thirty-five miles per gallon. The gas SE and XSE get thirty-four. The Hybrid LE and Hybrid XLE get fifty. That is a big jump, about fifteen more miles from every gallon.
