The Himalayan Adventure! Planes, Trains, and Motorcycles.
6-25 August 2026.
A group of us left… well… almost everywhere, to meetup in India to ride the Himalayas! Crew was Max, Jens, Lars, Marten, Mark, Lorrie Ann, Lorraine and me, Marc. Support was Kuram, Ravi, Guams, and Imtaje.
From August 6th thru the 25th we rode so many types of terrain, traffic, and weather. From low valleys to the highest mountain passes. From river crossings to Delhi traffic jams. Sweltering sun to deluges of rain… we saw it all. It was quite a proper adventure! And sooo affordable! Dinner for 6… $15 USD. Camel ride $5? Love it.
We were all riding on the newer Royal Enfield 450s, yup me and Lorraine were doubled up on a 450 and the bike didn’t like it at all at that altitude. We had sooo many problems, from overheating, to the bike just dying while we were riding, the mechanic team was super busy this trip.
There were such diverse landscapes, not what you’d think the Himalayas would be like. Lush greenery and sand dunes, to craggy moonscapes to high barren rockies. And the twisties? Twisties for days… and switchback galore. Rider’s heaven.
Itinerary went as this: From Delhi we traveled on the train to Chandigarh, then got the bikes and rode to Shimla, a great mountain side waling village! Very nice. Then Shimla to Sarahan, then to Sangla-Kalpa, and up to Nako Lake, awesome old style village. Then to Kaza for a rest day, we took a day ride to the highest post office in the world! After that headed to Keylong, over to Sarchu, then landed in Leh for a rest day. In Leh toured the Palace and shopped. Later rode into “Moonland” at Lamayuru, then thru Khardung La Pass at 17,582 Feet to the Nubra Valley. Our last ride was back to Leh, we had to re-ride the Khardung La Pass as the river was to high and deemed unsafe to cross, as a note right after we rode back to Leh the rivers flooded in Nepal and in Nubra. We then toured the Taj Mahal, friken awesome. And then we had to go home… sad face.
What an amazing adventure! Shout out to Peru Motors, Motor2Travel and Tiger Eye for putting it all together!
Epic man! Epic!
Till next time!
