'wayang orang') is a puppet that is played using people as characters in the wayang story. Wayang wong was created by Sri Susuhunan Hamangkurat I in 1731 in the Mataram Kingdom. In accordance with its nickname, the puppet is no longer performed by playing wayang puppets (shadow puppets which are usually made of buffalo skin or other materials), but displays humans instead of these puppets. They wear the same clothes as the decorations used in shadow puppets. In order for their faces or facial features to resemble shadow puppets (when viewed from the side), often the faces of the wayang wong performers are changed/decorated with additional pictures or paintings. The stories raised in wayang wong are based on colossal epic story duels namely the Mahabharata and Ramayana. The interesting thing about this wayang wong performance is that there is a colossal or individual dance per performer at each story break.
