Welcome to Inveraray, the ancestral home of the Duke of Argyll and the seat of Clan Campbell. Sitting on the shores of Loch Fyne, this 18th-century planned town is one of the most iconic stops in the West Highlands. In this video, we take a walk through: Inveraray Castle: A Gothic Revival masterpiece that looks like something out of a fairytale. (Fun fact: It was a filming location for Downton Abbey!) Inveraray Jail: One of the finest preserved 19th-century prisons in Europe—now an award-winning museum where history truly comes to life. The Main Street: Strolling past the famous white-washed buildings, local sweet shops, and the historic Inveraray Woollen Mill. Aray Bridge: The perfect viewpoint for photos of the castle reflected in the river. Dun Na Cuaiche: We look up at the watchtower on the hill—a steep but rewarding hike if you have the time! Whether you’re a history buff, a fan of architecture, or just looking for the best seafood on Loch Fyne, Inveraray is a must-visit in 2026. 📍 Getting There: About 1.5 hours from Glasgow via the scenic A83 "Rest and Be Thankful" pass.
