What is the China-Pakistan internet plan, why are Pakistan-Afghanistan tensions up, and why has KP come under emergency and governor’s rule? Raza Abbas examines three developments shaping Pakistan’s economic, diplomatic and political outlook.
First, we explain the cross-border fibre link inaugurated in 2018 and the 2024 announcement about routing Chinese internet traffic through Pakistan. Potential annual transit revenues were estimated at $200–400 million, rather than guaranteed profit.
Next, we discuss ISPR’s account of a foiled infiltration attempt in Kurram, its allegation that Afghan border posts supported the infiltrators, and the death of Naib Subedar Hidayat Aman.
Finally, we examine reports of emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the stated security rationale, political reactions and implications for provincial governance. Watch this Urdu geopolitical analysis for context on digital connectivity, border security and Pakistan’s political developments.
