What does $750,000 buy you in Bellingham’s historic Columbia neighborhood? In this home tour, I’m walking through 2217 Lynn Street, a 1920 Craftsman with the kind of character that makes Columbia one of my favorite older Bellingham neighborhoods. This home has 3 bedrooms, 1.75 baths and approximately 1,885 square feet, along with original fir flooring, tall ceilings, built-ins, a converted upstairs primary suite, newer windows, a mini-split for cooling, and fully paid-off solar. There’s also a detached garage, driveway parking and alley access — something worth paying attention to in one of Bellingham’s older neighborhoods. But what I really wanted to show in this tour is how an older Bellingham home can combine historic character with modern updates. We’ll walk through the original details, kitchen, bedrooms, primary suite, basement storage, backyard, hot tub and solar. I also talk through the property’s potential for an accessory dwelling unit because of the alley access and existing garage configuration. As always, that is something a buyer would need to independently verify with the City of Bellingham and the appropriate professionals before making any assumptions. And then there’s the neighborhood. 2217 Lynn Street is just a couple of blocks from Elizabeth Park, with easy access toward Old Town and the neighborhood businesses that make Columbia such a connected place to live. One of the things I’ve always liked about Columbia is that the front porches, parks and walkability actually help create interaction between neighbors — something that can be difficult to understand from listing photos alone. I’ve lived in Bellingham and Whatcom County for more than 36 years and have worked in real estate here for 23+ years. These tours are meant to give you the same kind of practical look at a home and neighborhood that I’d give one of my clients if we were touring together.
