The song beautifully reflects the traditional Punjabi value of extended family and kinship. A daughter’s marriage is not viewed as an occasion involving only her immediate family; it brings together maternal and paternal relatives, elders, cousins and the wider community. The repeated questions and answers therefore become a celebration of family relationships, hospitality, responsibility and belonging.
