In this second hadith of the Ziyādah of Ibn Rajab, Shaykh Muhammad Khan explains the profound legal and social implications of ar-radāʿah (breastfeeding) in Islamic law. The Prophet ﷺ said: «يَحرُمُ من الرّضَاعة ما يَحرُمُ من النّسب» “What is prohibited due to lineage is also prohibited due to breastfeeding.” [Agreed upon – Bukhārī & Muslim] Through this concise yet foundational narration, we learn: How breastfeeding establishes maḥram relationships The rulings on marriage prohibition through suckling Why Islamic law treats milk kinship with the same legal weight as blood ties Practical examples from the Sunnah and scholarly consensus This hadith is crucial for understanding family law, marital boundaries, and the safeguarding of social purity within the Sharīʿah. 🎓 Part of the extended collection of 8 hadith added by Imām Ibn Rajab al-Ḥanbalī (d. 795H) to Imām al-Nawawī’s famous Arbaʿīn, this narration reaffirms the depth and precision of Islamic teachings. 🕌 Series: Ziyādah of Ibn Rajab (Supplementary Hadith to the 40 of Nawawī) 🎙 Taught by: Shaykh Muhammad Khan
