Everyone knows speckled trout crush big topwater plugs in the spring, when the fish are stuffing all they can in their bellies to gear up for the spawn. But what about the fall, when white shrimp are abundant and the food practically comes to them? Marsh Man Masson and his son, Joel, set out to catch some bigger-than-usual speckled trout on hard-plastic baits, and although they found different patterns than those that produce in the late-winter and spring, they got some ferocious blow-ups and put some nice fish in the boat.
