We thought the Park Hyatt Saigon would be impossible to top... then we checked into The Reverie Saigon. From a jeweled headboard and chandeliers to a bathtub overlooking the river, this was the most extravagant hotel we have ever stayed in. But after almost four years of traveling, house-sitting, and living like locals, is a five-star hotel in Vietnam really worth it?
Join us, for a stay at The Reverie Saigon in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. We're taking you inside our upgraded King room, sharing the little details that made us feel completely spoiled, and comparing our experience with our previous stay at the Park Hyatt Saigon. We expected a beautiful hotel. We did not expect to have such a hard time leaving the building!
OUR ROOM AT THE REVERIE SAIGON
Our room on the 31st floor came with sweeping views of the city, the Saigon River, and the boats passing below. Even the closet had a view! Inside, we found marble, beautiful artwork, a sparkling headboard, a chandelier, and a television that disappeared so we could enjoy the skyline. Add motorized curtains, a coffee station, and a chaise lounge, and suddenly our plans to go out didn't seem quite so urgent.
THE LITTLE DETAILS THAT MADE THE STAY
Sometimes luxury is about the grand entrance. Sometimes it's about someone putting slippers beside your bed and tidying your charging cords. From the friendly welcome to the turndown service, this stay was full of thoughtful touches that made us feel cared for.
There was a pillow menu, which felt especially funny after stays where we've happily improvised with sofa cushions. We received a fruit plate and a bottle of Bordeaux, enjoyed the minibar items included with our stay, and picked up sweet treats from a chocolate shop in the building. Before long, our evening plans became wine, chocolate, a movie, and that incredible view.
POOL TIME, BREAKFAST, AND A LITTLE PAMPERING
We spent time by the pool, enjoyed cocktails, and made the most of the chance to slow down. Steven checked out the sauna and steam room, while Elaine tried to work out how to fit both pool time and a long bath into the same stay.
Breakfast included a buffet and made-to-order choices during our visit, and even the cappuccino arrived with the hotel's logo on top. We talk about how the breakfast compared with the Park Hyatt and why, for us, the whole experience at The Reverie felt so special.
THE REVERIE SAIGON VS. PARK HYATT SAIGON
We loved the Park Hyatt's classic atmosphere, and moving to another hotel felt like a gamble. Could the next place really be better? The Reverie's dramatic interiors, room features, views, and attention to detail gave us a different kind of five-star experience.
In this video, we share which hotel we'd choose after trying both. This is our personal experience of two memorable stays, including the things that made us laugh, the things that surprised us, and the comforts we were absolutely not ready to give up at checkout.
HOW OUR AMEX BOOKING ADDED VALUE
We also explain the American Express Platinum booking perks we received on this trip, including breakfast, a property credit, a room upgrade, and a late checkout. Those extras helped shape how we felt about the value of the stay.
For us, travel has never needed to mean expensive hotels every night. We love housesitting, apartments, budget stays, and the everyday experiences that come with spending time in a place. This was a chance to enjoy something different before heading back to the United States, and we wanted to bring you along for the surprises as well as the splurge.
EXPECT A FEW BLOOPERS, TOO
Fancy surroundings don't suddenly teach us how to act fancy. Between the hidden television, the bathroom controls, the chocolate tasting, and a few attempts at getting our words right, there were plenty of moments that didn't go according to plan. Stay through the end for a little more of the reality behind our luxury hotel adventure.
Would you choose The Reverie Saigon or the Park Hyatt Saigon? And what's the one hotel detail that makes a stay feel special to you: the view, the breakfast, the pool, or the bed? Tell us in the comments!

We went from making do with sofa cushions to ordering from a PILLOW MENU 😂 This stay at The Reverie Saigon was something else!
What would make you miss checkout: the river-view bathtub 🛁, the pool 🍹, or that bed 🛏️? And if you watched our Park Hyatt video, which hotel would YOU choose?
