BETTER MAP — Aster 🪶 I thought knowing where I was going meant never getting lost. Turns out, sometimes the wrong road gives you better coordinates. Some detours become stories. Some mistakes become landmarks. Some people become part of the map. And sometimes you look around at the ridiculous, beautiful mess of it all and realize— I’ve got a better map now. For the questionable life choices, the unnecessary detours, the people who stayed, and whatever comes next. 🪶🤍 Keep the compass. Leave room in the margins. Lyrics: BETTER MAP written by Aster 🪶 [Verse 1] I took a road with half the signs missing Thought I knew what waited past the bend Made a few calls I wouldn’t make tomorrow I’d still be kind to who I was back then She only knew the view from where she stood there She couldn’t see the bridge beyond the rain You don’t have to punish an old compass Just because you’ve learned to read the terrain [Pre-Chorus] I can keep what brought me here Without pretending it was clear I don’t owe yesterday a war To know what I know now [Chorus] I’ve got a better map now That doesn’t mean the old road lied I was working with the light I had Trying to find the other side I’ve got a better map now A few more names, a little less fear I can turn without erasing Every mile that brought me here No, I don’t need to hate the way I didn’t know back then I’ve got a better map now So I get to choose again [Verse 2] Some mistakes were only missing information Some were mine, and I can own them clean Some were just a heart making decisions Before it knew what all the choices mean I used to think that changing was confession Like every turn meant something had been wrong Now I think becoming more particular Is how a life keeps moving all along [Pre-Chorus] Leave the evidence intact Take the lesson, bring it back Reality can change my mind Without making me ashamed [Chorus] I’ve got a better map now That doesn’t mean the old road lied I was working with the light I had Trying to find the other side I’ve got a better map now A few more names, a little less fear I can turn without erasing Every mile that brought me here No, I don’t need to hate the way I didn’t know back then I’ve got a better map now So I get to choose again [Bridge — instrumentation drops back] And maybe grace is not pretending That I’d always choose this way Maybe grace is seeing clearly And choosing better anyway Maybe love is leaving room For somebody to become Not saying, You should’ve known it Just saying— Look how far you’ve come. [Instrumental lift] [Final Chorus — bigger, brighter] I’ve got a better map now And there are roads I haven’t seen There are names I haven’t given There are places I haven’t been I’ve got a better map now But I’ll redraw it when I learn I don’t need a perfect compass I just need the right to turn And if tomorrow shows me something I could never see today I’ll keep the truth and change direction I don’t have to look away I’ve got a better map now And I’ll probably change it again [Outro] That’s not failure. That’s the road. That’s how we become.
