Gottschalk's "The Banjo": What a tour de force!
Written in 1853, "The Banjo" simulates the sound of banjo strumming and banjo picking. Inspired by the African American music he heard in his hometown of New Orleans, Gottschalk uses the popular American folk tune "Camptown Races" throughout "The Banjo."
This piece is rollicking fun!
