Citroën Evolution (1919-2018) Citroën was founded in 1919 by André-Gustave Citroën in France. From the beginning, Citroën became known for combining mass production, affordable cars, and innovative engineering. In 1934, the company introduced the revolutionary Traction Avant, one of the first mass-produced cars to combine front-wheel drive, independent front suspension, and a low, aerodynamic body. After World War II, Citroën created some of its most iconic cars. The 2CV, launched in 1948, provided extremely affordable and practical transportation, while the DS, introduced in 1955, became famous for its futuristic styling and advanced hydropneumatic suspension. Financial difficulties led Citroën to form a partnership with Peugeot, eventually becoming part of the PSA Group in the 1970s. The brand continued producing distinctive models such as the CX, BX, and Xantia. In 2021, PSA merged with Fiat Chrysler to create Stellantis, making Citroën part of one of the world's largest automotive groups. Today, Citroën focuses on comfortable, practical, unconventional vehicles, increasingly including electric and hybrid models.
