Evening Service 11th Oct Speaker Rev Tom Robinson

Have you ever noticed that a spiritual high is so often followed by a sudden trial? In this evening message at LCC, Rev. Tom Robinson looks at Acts 4 and the testing Peter and John faced right after the healing of the lame man. He gives three simple thoughts: testing comes suddenly, testing is unavoidable for those who live and witness for Christ, and testing can feel overwhelming. Drawing on Peter’s failure in the courtyard and Hudson Taylor’s memorable lesson that only what is in the glass can come out when it is knocked, he asks what our reactions reveal about our hearts. So what changed Peter? Standing before the Sanhedrin, the same man who once denied Jesus spoke with calm, holy boldness, because he was filled with the Holy Spirit. Rev. Bergen shows from Luke 12 and Ephesians that this is no optional extra for the Christian. Being filled with the Spirit is the secret to facing life’s trials in a way that glorifies God. If you’ve ever felt defeated by how you reacted under pressure, this message is for you. Join us, and consider whether the Spirit has control of every area of your life: your temper, your tongue, your emotions, your all. 0:00 Lead in 00:22 Welcome 03:18 1st Hymn 06:00 2nd Hymn 08:46 Reading 12:06 Prayer 15:08 3rd Hymn 17:50 Teaching Time 19:34 Outline and 1 st Point Tests come Suddently 29:49 2nd Point the Test is unavoidable 33:50 3rd Point Tests are Nearly Overwhelming 39:45 Practical Applacations 41:55 Prayer 45:55 Prayer 47:17 Lead out
