Turkish divers logged it as wreck number 434 — just another Ottoman wreck on a coast full of them. Then an archaeologist recognized the jars from an Egyptology journal, and the "Ottoman wreck" turned out to be 4,700 years old.
I'm Edrin, and in this Edrin Discovery documentary we descend thirty metres to the Kekova shipwreck off Turkey's Antalya coast: the thirty clay jars, the three stone anchors, the residue still sealed inside after forty-seven centuries — and the honest answer to whether it dethrones the Dokos wreck as the oldest shipwreck ever found.

The Kekova shipwreck lies thirty metres deep off Kekova Island, Turkey, announced by Turkey's Ministry of Culture and Tourism in October 2026 and published by Hakan Öniz and Ceyda Öztosun in the Journal of Maritime Archaeology. This underwater archaeology documentary covers the Early Bronze Age shipwreck discovery, the 2700–2400 BCE Levantine amphorae cargo, the world's oldest shipwreck debate, the Dokos shipwreck record, Bronze Age maritime trade, X-ray residue analysis, and the Antalya coast's 434 documented wrecks — separating confirmed evidence from the hype.
