This is a crystal radio that works on medium wave and short wave bands. Here I changed the antenna coil to the medium wave and short wave ranges. The bands are changed by switching coils for different frequency. Lower frequency require more number of turns on a bigger diameter PVC core. I used an external antenna of about 10 meters long extended on the top of my house to feed the RF signal to the antenna resonant circuit, which is very essential to listen to any signal through this radio. I used an external strong ground rod dug up in the ground as ground connection and that is connected to the negative terminal. I used an audio amplifier to amplify the feeble audio that comes after the audio is detected by the germanium diode detector. I was able to listen to most of the stronger stations on different shortwave broadcast bands such as the medium wave band, 49 meter band, 41 meter band, 31 meter band etc. I also plan to do a similar setup to detect signals on the FM band.
Thanks & 73
