Liam Stewart delivers a deeply personal and challenging talk at the Portglenone Catholic Men’s Retreat, speaking openly about addiction, family wounds, grief, resentment, forgiveness, faith and the struggle many men have in talking honestly about what is happening inside them. As a Catholic psychotherapist who has worked extensively with men and addiction, Liam draws on both his professional experience and his own journey of more than three decades in recovery. He speaks candidly about the damage addiction caused within his own family, the deaths of his brothers, his relationship with his parents, learning to forgive, and discovering that healing requires more than simply understanding the past. Throughout the talk, Liam returns repeatedly to Scripture, prayer, Confession, personal responsibility and the need to allow Christ to transform the way we see ourselves and others. At the heart of the talk is a challenge particularly directed towards men: to move beyond isolation, shame and the pressure to appear strong, to become capable of vulnerability, unconditional love and genuine relationships with God, ourselves and our families.
