January 22, 2019 - As of the posting of this video, the Capitals are 33-0-1 when Ovechkin scores a hat trick. This is that one loss. The Capitals came into this game riding a 5-game losing streak, getting outscored 23-9 in the process. In two of their last three games, they allowed 7 or more goals. At home against a Sharks team that had lost three straight (giving up six goals in each game), something had to give. The first period went as expected - both teams trading goals to end the first 20 minutes at 3-2 Caps. Ovechkin was very much into the game, recording a goal and an assist in the first. In the second period, the Great 8 struck again to extend the lead to 5-3. Up 5-4 in the third period, Ovechkin completed the hat trick off of a great pass from Jakub Vrana to seemingly put the game away. The Sharks would score again to make it 6-5, but as the time wound down, it appeared the Caps would finally bust their slump. The Capitals captain helped defend down the stretch, with several shot blocks and deflected passes in the defensive zone. But with barely a second left in regulation, Evander Kane chipped home a loose puck to tie the game at 6-6. In overtime, Washington had a few chances, but it was San Jose who would find the back of the net first thanks to Tomas Hertl, who capped off a hat trick of his own. Not exactly the "Dueling Hat Tricks" game Caps fans wanted. The Caps wouldn't win again until after the All-Star break. Sorry to end on a depressing note. That's just how the game went. Had to make this video eventually and decided to rip the Band-Aid off. Even though the Caps lost, not making a video for a hat trick and 4-point night seems wrong. Kind of wanted to just not include the last 90 seconds of this video, but for the sake of consistency I'm leaving it in. Forgot how much this game sucked on the whole for the Caps. It's not often I think back on a regular season loss from years ago and still have a sour taste for it, but this game again was all kinds of terrible to watch again. For that reason, I am uploading another game from that season that was actually a win -    • Ovi’s Big Night Gets Backstrom To 600 Assi...  . I can't stand to have this be my most recent upload for even a minute.
