22 December 1956 — Hexham, Northumberland I could scarcely keep my papers straight whenever those double doors opened. Such a bitter wind, and so many customers waiting for their Christmas payroll money. Mr Dobbie had written ‘Christmas relief payment’ in his diary and brought copies of everything. His committee had approved the amounts, though apparently not everyone was content to leave them alone. Miss Marple had come to help him collect the money. He seemed rather relieved to let her ask the questions. I watched Mrs Ardley arrive with parcels for the staff. The private gate opened before the queue had moved. A man at the front objected; I found myself looking down at my counter. Meanwhile, a woman in a green coat waited for the manager, and a tradesman wanted her attention. This is a full-length Miss Marple-style Christmas mystery, narrated with Miss Marple appearing between chapters: company for a quiet evening, or for falling asleep to, if the bank’s small anxieties permit it. An original story inspired by Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple; no rights claimed. If you care to, do like, leave a comment and subscribe; I should be glad of the company. ⏱️ Chapters 0:00 Introduction 1:42 Chapter 1: The Parcel at the Private Gate 12:24 Chapter 2: The Hat Beneath the Counter 22:44 Chapter 3: Celia’s Blue Envelopes 32:34 Chapter 4: The Chair Turned Sideways 42:34 Chapter 5: The Demand Inside His Coat 52:06 Chapter 6: The Orders Crossed Out 1:02:03 Chapter 7: The Brass on the Bullet 1:11:49 Chapter 8: The Receipt He Would Not Name 1:20:41 Chapter 9: The Mark on the Inner Edge 1:29:27 Chapter 10: The Labels Florence Changed 1:37:56 Chapter 11: Six Inches from the Parcel 1:45:33 Chapter 12: The Money Owed #MissMarple #ChristmasMystery #CosyMystery
