How to Achieve Olympic Gold in LA! Featuring Brian Goodell [Talking Issues #52]

In this episode of Talking Issues, Curt Pringle sits down with two-time Olympic gold medalist and Mission Viejo Councilmember Brian Goodell to discuss his journey from a young swimmer in Orange County to competing on the world stage. Brian shares how years of intense training led him to the 1976 Montreal Olympics, where he won two gold medals and broke world records in the 400-meter and 1,500-meter freestyle events. He reflects on Mission Viejo’s history as a swimming powerhouse, the discipline required to compete, and the impact of the 1980 U.S. Olympic boycott. The conversation also looks ahead to the 2028 Olympic Games in Southern California, including swimming at SoFi Stadium, athlete preparation, Orange County’s role in the Games, and Mission Viejo’s efforts to host international teams as they train for LA28. A compelling conversation about Olympic history, athletic preparation, community investment, and what Southern California can expect as the 2028 Games approach. #TalkingIssues #BrianGoodell #LA28 #Olympics #MissionViejo #OlympicSwimming #OrangeCounty #LosAngeles2028 #OlympicGold
