Dr. COG is a strategic puzzle game centered on restoring memory by building gear systems around a core. Each stage challenges players to reach a target memory value within a limited time, using carefully placed gears to boost rotational energy and maximize recovery.
Memory is generated as gears rotate around the core. Clockwise and counterclockwise gears contribute separately, and their combined power is calculated multiplicatively. Placement is limited by the player’s available power, and selecting gears with beneficial synergies becomes essential for efficient builds.
New gears are offered periodically from a supply bar, where players choose one of three random options. Selected gears are added to storage and can then be placed on the field. Strategic placement is key—gears must be connected to the core to activate, and their synergies can enhance production, boost power per cycle, or generate bonus gears.
Duplicate gears do not stack synergies, encouraging level-ups through merging identical pieces. Gears can be dismantled to speed up future supply generation, and most can be upgraded to level 4 for greater efficiency. Some gears may start with negative effects at level 1, requiring swift upgrades to unlock their true potential.
After clearing a stage, players can choose from branching paths, each offering different rewards like new gears, upgrades, or enhancement modules called Augments. These Augments boost specific synergies and activate passively once acquired, making them vital for deep progression.
Later zones introduce debuffs that complicate gear usage—such as capping memory production every few cycles or penalizing excessive power usage. The ultimate goal is to restore memory across four major stages, each increasing in difficulty and mechanical complexity.
While the game could benefit from improved UI during pause states and clearer synergy indicators within the gear deck, it delivers a tightly woven experience built around smart planning and modular interaction.
