True Romance (1993) Review | A 90s Cult Classic Done Right

Full spoiler review of True Romance (1993). Dylan, Scott, and Russell lose it over Tarantino's first script, the stacked cast, and one hilarious verdict. True Romance is a Russell pick, and the guys go all in. The takeaway: this is a great movie that lands near the top of our scale, nowhere close to War of the Worlds. We break down why this plays like a prototype for Pulp Fiction, why Tony Scott is criminally underrated, and how Tarantino's first screenplay ended up stacked with Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt, Dennis Hopper, Christopher Walken, and a blink and you miss him Samuel L. Jackson. We get into the scene Tarantino calls the best dialogue he ever wrote, Gary Oldman vanishing into Drexl, Alabama's brutal hotel fight, and the fact that Brad Pitt's stoner Floyd directly inspired Pineapple Express. Plus Val Kilmer's secret Elvis role, how this movie handed Gandolfini The Sopranos, and a full spoiler tour of the ending. Follow the show and tell us in the comments where YOU'D put it on the War of the Worlds scale.
