Wy Do(n’t) We?

[Verse 1] Life isn’t fair The ones who care Are never the ones Who get what they want They take what they need Then leave you to bleed And somehow they win While we lose again [Pre-Chorus] We give, they take We bend, they break Why does it work this way? The more we care The less they see Why can’t they want us Like we want them to? [Chorus] Why do we love those who don’t? Why can’t we love those who do? Why do we want the ones who leave And hurt the ones who see us through? Why does a heart want what it can’t have? Why do we run from a love that lasts? Maybe life’s just unfair We want the ones who aren’t there [Verse 2] The good ones stay But we look away We call it love When it hurts too much We wait for a sign And waste all our time Chasing a heart That was never ours [Pre-Chorus] We give, they take We bend, they break Why does it work this way? The more they leave The more we want Why is the love we get Never enough? [Chorus] Why do we love those who don’t? Why can’t we love those who do? Why do we want the ones who leave And hurt the ones who see us through? Why does a heart want what it can’t have? Why do we run from a love that lasts? Maybe life’s just unfair We want the ones who aren’t there [Bridge] Maybe it’s not love Maybe it’s the chase Maybe we just want To be someone’s first place Maybe being wanted Should be enough So why does it feel Like it’s never love? [Final Chorus] Why do we love those who don’t? Why can’t we love those who do? Why are we breaking our own hearts For someone who won’t choose us too? Why does a heart want what it can’t have? Why do we want what hurts us so bad? Maybe life’s just unfair We want the ones who aren’t there [Outro] Why do we love those who don’t? Why can’t we love those who do? Someone’s loving us right now… But what if we don’t love them too?
