SER VS. ESTAR: PATTERNS TO LISTEN FOR
• Estar is for how someone feels and where something is: estoy cansado, estoy en casa.
• Compare with the last lesson: "La casa es grande" (what it's like) vs. "La tienda está cerrada" (how it is right now).
• Food and drink use estar: la comida está rica, el café está frío.
• ¿Cómo está? means "How is it/he/she?" ¿Cómo es? means "What is it like?"
