Why you should never let the world tell you your worth | Eckhart Tolle

Many things make up your life situation: your relationships, your health, your work, where you live, your standing in the world, whether you count as a success or a failure. Weird terms, Eckhart Tolle says. And if you let the world tell you which one you are, you are listening to a judge that is not reliable. What actually wakes us up, he says, is the difficulty of life. He uses the word adversity. It begins in childhood: no child is free of it, some far more than others. Even the most careful parent cannot prevent it, and if they succeeded for years, the absence of adversity would itself become the child's greatest difficulty later. You cannot win that one. Spiritual people call these things challenges, and he admits the word is a euphemism. If you are spiritual, it is a challenge. If you are not, it is dreadful stuff. It is easy to tell somebody else their situation is a challenge; when it happens to you it may feel different. But they will come, small ones every day and bigger ones from time to time, and every one of them carries the possibility of waking up out of the egoic state. The possibility, he says, not the certainty. It may not happen with the first, or the second, or the third. But it is there each time. Eckhart goes much further into this in the full session.
