30 Ramadan Translation of Dua from Qunoot of Witr

Masjid: Clear Lake Islamic Center Imam: Shaykh Waleed Basyouni Dua-i-Qunoot: The Arabic word "dua" comes from the root word meaning "to call." Allah has said in the Quran that He answers the one who calls when he calls upon Him, and the word for the one who calls is "da'in" from the same root. The Qunoot of Witr is that point in the Witr salat (the last prayer before the start of the dawn) in which the worshipper raises his hands and begs from Allah whatever he chooses, both for his needs in this life and his needs in the life after death where all men and women will be judged for their beliefs and actions in this lifetime, and where all men and women will find themselves either in the Fire of Hell, or in the Gardens of Paradise. O Allah let us be among those in the highest Gardens of Paradise. Dua is among the least regimented acts of worship, in that any person of any faith or nominally no faith may call out for help from his Lord or from those the misguided take in partnership with Allah. Islam teaches us etiquettes for calling out to Allah, and Allah and His Messenger taught us times when dua is most accepted and most appropriate. The Qunoot of Witr is one of those auspicious times and because all of salah is properly performed in Arabic, any dua is also made in Arabic during the salah. For that reason, Shaykh Waleed, may Allah protect him and increase him in knowledge, gave this talk to benefit English-speaking worshippers in which he recites many of the duas made in qunoot and gives translations and explanations of them. He is Allah, there is no one worthy of worship other than Him.
