Guangzhou Xinhepu: Walking the Dongshan Red-Brick Villa District｜广州新河浦：东山红砖洋楼街区漫步

Filmed on: September 30, 2026 Location: Xinhepu Historic District, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, China Xinhepu is the largest surviving cluster of early twentieth-century garden villas in Guangzhou, with more than 400 low-rise red-brick houses built in a hybrid Chinese-Western style. The neighbourhood developed from the 1910s onward, when overseas Chinese returning from the Americas and Southeast Asia bought land on what was then the eastern edge of the city and built homes for their families. It was listed as one of Guangzhou's first historic conservation areas in 2000 and upgraded to a provincial-level historic district in 2020.
