Bose just launched their new QuietComfort Gen 2 headphones. They are cheaper than the ultras, they have some features which are better than the Ultras, and they look very similar, so that got me wondering, which is actually the better buy? The newest Bose QuietComfort Gen 2 Headphones or the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Gen 2 Headphones. The naming kind of sucks so for this video I will call these the Base model and these the Ultras.

ADDITIONAL VIDEO NOTES:
PRICE
QuietComfort (2nd Gen): $359.00 MSRP.
QuietComfort Ultra (2nd Gen): $449.99 MSRP. But at the time of filming, they are $399
Price Difference: The Ultra is $90 more expensive at launch, though both models see periodic sale discounts.
I’ll have links to both in the description below. Sometimes there are special sales or exclusive discounts so once you decide, please check the links to support the channel.
DESIGN
USB on opposite sides
Both fold and rotate
Both have similar dimensions
I’ll talk about colors, controls, and comfort in a bit but let’s get into my favorite category
Again, a big win for the base model gen 2’s - these are awesome
Ultra (2nd Gen): Uses Bose CustomTune technology, playing an acoustic chime upon startup to measure your ear canal geometry and dynamically adjust audio and ANC performance.
Base Model (2nd Gen): Utilizes Bose Active EQ to electronically balance frequencies against Bose's target curve, but lacks CustomTune hardware tone calibration.
Base model sounds less clear, less articulate, and overall more cluttered
Both have a similar tuning, although the base model may be slightly warmer
The EQ is honestly pathetic but perhaps Bose assumes most users never EQ their headphones
Sound is the first real differentiator in my opinion making the ultras significantly better sounding
Case: Both include a protective hard-shell carrying case.
Folding: Both models feature a foldable design with earcups that rotate flat for compact travel storage.
Repairability: Ear cushions are made of protein leather and are user-removable and replaceable. Both include a 1-year limited warranty with optional 2- or 3-year BoseCare protection plans.
Ultra (2nd Gen): 4 finishes — Black, White Smoke, Midnight Violet, and Driftwood Sand; accented with polished metal yokes and a metallic logo inlay.
Base Model (2nd Gen): 5 finishes — Black, White Smoke, plus 3 limited-edition colorways: Eucalyptus Green, Rosewood Mauve, and two-tone Dewdrop Mint.
FEATURES
Both have: Active Noise Cancellation (Quiet Mode), Aware Mode with ActiveSense, Spatialized Bose Immersive Audio & Cinema Mode, Bluetooth 5.4, Bluetooth Multipoint (2 devices), USB-C digital audio, auto-pause head detection, Bose App integration, optional wired listening, and folding carry cases.
Ultra has: Bose CustomTune startup tone calibration, Qualcomm aptX Adaptive / aptX Lossless / Snapdragon Sound support, capacitive touch strip for volume/shortcuts, polished metal yokes/logo styling, and longer battery life.
Base model has: Physical tactile button controls, 5 color options (including 3 limited edition hues), lighter plastic construction (~230g), lower price point ($359), and Google Fast Pair support.
BATTERY
Ultra (2nd Gen): 30 hours per charge in Quiet Mode with ANC on (23 hours with Immersive Audio enabled). Fast charge: 15 min charge = 3 hours playback.
Base Model (2nd Gen): 24 hours per charge in Quiet Mode with ANC on (18 hours with Immersive Audio enabled). Fast charge: 15 min charge = 2.5 hours playback.
