"I work right now." That sentence is wrong, and almost everyone says it. Three easy rules for -ing, slow and clear, for A1–A2 — and ten new words.
🟢 Level: A1–A2
🎙️ Hosts: Sofia and David
🎧 In this episode:
• Be plus -ing: the two pieces, and why "I working" is only half a sentence
• The spelling: the E that goes away, the letter that doubles, the Y that stays
• I drink coffee, or I'm drinking coffee? The words that tell you which one
• The verbs that never take -ing: want, like, know, need, understand
• A sofa stuck in a door, a neighbor with a coffee, and ten new words
📖 New words in this episode:
• sofa — the long soft seat where two or three people sit
• push — to move something away from you
• pull — to move something toward you
• stuck — it can't move, forward or back
• hold — to have something in your hands
• carry — to hold something and walk with it
• shout — to speak very loudly
• upstairs — on the floor above you
• moment — a very short time
• office — the place with desks and computers where people work
Try this today: three times, stop and say out loud what you are doing.
I'm washing the dishes. I'm waiting for the bus. I'm listening to this.
Three seconds each, and nobody has to hear you.
💬 Your turn! Answer in the comments:
• What are you doing right now? One sentence, with -ing.
• What do you usually do on Sunday? And what are you doing this Sunday?
• Tell us one thing you are learning this month.
👋 New here? Welcome to Everyday English Podcast.
Sofia and David talk about everyday life in slow, clear English, for people
who are learning the language. Each episode takes one small piece of
English, teaches ten or more new words, puts them in a story, and leaves you
time to say them out loud.
You don't have to understand every word — nobody does at the start. Listen,
say what you can, and come back next week. Making mistakes is part of
learning, and we make them here on purpose.
