The most produced motor vehicle in human history is back, and this time it's electric. Honda's own Chinese joint venture, Wuyang-Honda, revived the 1958 Super Cub as the Cub e: for about $850, with roughly 40 miles of range. Shanghai startup Super Soco packed a Bosch hub motor into its Cub-shaped CUx and even released a Ducati edition. A small Shanghai workshop is turning real Super Cub frames into silent electric street bikes with Panasonic batteries.
Back in 1963, "You meet the nicest people on a Honda" made America fall in love with the little Cub. More than 100 million have been built since, a world record. Now China's huge electric two-wheeler supply chain is giving that 1950s silhouette instant torque, zero oil changes and a battery you can charge from a wall outlet. Purists call it sacrilege. Others say it's the only way to keep the Cub on the road for another hundred million riders.
Which would you rather own: an original 1960s Super Cub that needs a wrench every other weekend, or a brand-new electric Cub you charge at home and never have to fix? Tell us in the comments.
