Mechwarrior 4: Vengeance - Episode 4 - Dropship Disposal

After being congratulated for the previous mission, I was reminded that the fighting on Kentarius IV is only the beginning. The real battle awaits on Kentarius itself, where the bulk of the Steiner forces are stationed. We also intercepted a transmission revealing more about Steiner's rule, and it is becoming clear that we are fighting against a regime that has no intention of giving up control without a fight. For now, though, my attention remains on Kentarius IV. Our orders were to destroy three Steiner dropships before they could become operational. If those ships manage to launch, they could bring additional forces into the fight and make our campaign considerably more difficult. The best strategy was therefore obvious: don't get distracted, and destroy the dropships before they have a chance to become a problem. The targets were positioned at Navpoint Alpha, Navpoint Beta and Navpoint Charlie. Rather than engaging every vehicle and BattleMech along the way, I decided to ignore them completely. Every second spent fighting ground forces was another second the dropships had to activate. It wasn't exactly the safest approach, but sometimes the best way to win a mission is to stick to the objective. I pushed forward, reached each target and destroyed the dropships before they could become operational. The Shadow Cat took some punishment along the way, but thankfully there were no casualties on our side. It wasn't the hardest mission of the campaign so far, but it could have gone sideways very quickly if even one of those dropships had launched. With the reinforcement threat removed, we can continue preparing for the battles ahead. The fighting on Kentarius IV is only the opening chapter. The real war is waiting on Kentarius. And after everything that has happened so far, I have a feeling the missions are about to get a lot harder.
