Muzikinė dovana kino režisieriui Algimantui Puipai. ---- „Niekada nenufilmuotai muzikai ir neparašytam Algimanto Puipos filmui“ – kūrinys styginių kvartetui, dedikuotas kino režisieriui Algimantui Puipai. Kompozicijos pavadinime sąmoningai įrašytas semantinis neatitikimas: muzika čia vadinama nenufilmuota, o filmas – neparašytu. Šios sąvokos iš pirmo žvilgsnio prieštarauja įprastai meno rūšių logikai: muzika paprastai nėra filmuojama, o filmas nėra vien rašytinis tekstas. Tačiau būtent šiame neatitikime atsiveria kūrinio poetinė ir dramaturginė erdvė. Pavadinime glūdi mintis, kad filmas gali būti girdimas, o muzika gali veikti tarsi filmas. Ši kompozicija nėra muzika jau egzistuojančiam kino kūriniui ir nėra įsivaizduojamo filmo iliustracija. Ji veikiau kuria patį filmą garso priemonėmis – be kameros, be ekrano, be scenarijaus, bet su vidine dramaturgija, kadrų nuojauta, montažo pojūčiu ir nematomais personažais. ------ “For Music Never Filmed and for Algimantas Puipa’s Unwritten Film” is a work for string quartet dedicated to the film director Algimantas Puipa. The title of the composition deliberately contains a semantic incongruity: here, music is described as never filmed, while the film is described as unwritten. At first glance, these notions contradict the usual logic of artistic forms: music is not normally filmed, and a film is not merely a written text. Yet it is precisely within this incongruity that the poetic and dramaturgical space of the work opens up. The title contains the idea that a film can be heard, and that music can function as if it were a film. This composition is not music for an already existing cinematic work, nor is it an illustration of an imagined film. Rather, it creates the film itself through the means of sound — without a camera, without a screen, without a screenplay, yet with an inner dramaturgy, an intuition of shots, a sense of montage, and invisible characters. In this work, the string quartet becomes a kind of audible cinema. The four instruments may be understood as four voices, four cinematic camera perspectives, or four characters of a film that has not yet been written. Their dialogue creates not only a musical structure but also an imagined visual sequence: pauses become silent frames, timbral shifts become changes of light and shadow, melodic lines become inner monologues, and the thickening or fading of texture becomes the dramaturgy of an invisible plot. In this context, the dedication to Algimantas Puipa acquires not only the meaning of homage, but also that of an artistic dialogue. The work addresses the film director not as the author of a specific film, but as a creator of imaginative space. What matters here is not a film that actually exists, but its possibility — a film that could have been written, could have been filmed, yet has remained in a state of sound, memory, and artistic intuition. Therefore, “For Music Never Filmed and for Algimantas Puipa’s Unwritten Film” may be understood as a work about the boundary between the audible and the visible, between cinema and music, between art already created and art still only imagined. It is music that does not accompany a film, but itself becomes a film; and it is a film that does not exist on the screen, yet unfolds in the listener’s imagination as an audible, inner, never-filmed narrative.
