We almost did Penang, Malaysia completely wrong. And somehow, everything turned out right! We traveled from Kuala Lumpur to Penang by train, stayed in Butterworth instead of on Penang Island, and headed across the ferry to explore historic George Town. We had a plan for sightseeing, food, and exploring the city. But almost nothing happened the way we expected! Our original sightseeing plan fell apart. We discovered a wonderful little kombucha café, met Deva for an unforgettable trishaw adventure, explored George Town's colorful streets and historic clan jetties, and even got caught in a tropical downpour. And then there was the food! From our first kombucha at Fat Tiger to an unexpected vegetarian Nyonya meal, Penang kept surprising us. We even learned from Melissa that we'd been eating one of our dishes completely wrong! Sometimes the best travel experiences aren't the ones you plan. They're the ones that happen when you're willing to change the plan. Was staying on the mainland a mistake? Would we do Penang differently next time? Come along as two Americans traveling full-time after 50 discover why getting things wrong can sometimes turn out perfectly right. *⏱️ CHAPTERS* 00:00 — We almost did Penang completely wrong! 00:56 — Taking the train from Kuala Lumpur to Penang 07:26 — Why we stayed in Butterworth 09:30 — Taking the ferry to George Town 10:15 — Our sightseeing plan starts falling apart 11:01 — Discovering Fat Tiger Kombucha Lab 12:00 — Exploring George Town and meeting Deva 13:01 — An unexpected trishaw adventure 16:14 — Exploring Penang's historic clan jetties 18:15 — Caught in a tropical downpour! 20:00 — Discovering vegetarian Nyonya cuisine 21:36 — Melissa shows us what we're doing wrong 22:59 — Was staying in Butterworth a mistake? 24:57 — Why everything worked out 25:32 — 😂 BLOOPERS!
